Dr. Catalin Pestrea is an implantable cardiac devices specialist and an interventional electrophysiologist. He is the head of the Cardiac Devices and Electrophysiology Unit of the Brasov County Clinical Emergency Hospital in the center of Romania. In 2018, he performed the first permanent His bundle pacing procedures, and in 2019, the first left bundle branch area pacing procedures in Romania. Since then, he has implemented these procedures in his laboratory as a standard of care, with approximately half of all the pacing cases being conduction system pacing. ACC vice president, received his medical degree from the University of California, San Francisco School of Medicine, and completed his residency and chief residency in internal medicine, and fellowship in cardiology at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania. His first faculty appointment was at Allegheny General Hospital, then MCP/Hahnemann University School of Medicine, where he directed the cardiology fellowship.
He then moved to the University of Virginia School of Medicine, where in 2019 he was named the George A. Beller/Lantheus Medical Imaging Distinguished Professor of Cardiovascular Medicine, Chief of the Division of Cardiovascular Medicine, and Medical Director of the Heart and Vascular Science Line. Kramer’s principal research interest has been the application of cardiovascular magnetic resonance (CMR) to the cardiovascular system in studies from mice to large animals to humans.
Prior to serving as ACC Vice President, Kramer served as President of the Society for Cardiovascular Magnetic Resonance (SCMR), ACC Treasurer, Chair of ACC’s Imaging Council, and Chair of the Clinical and Integrative Cardiovascular Sciences NIH study section. Kramer is an associate editor at JACC and previously was Executive Editor of JACC: Cardiovascular Imaging. He currently serves on the editorial boards of Circulation, Circulation: Cardiovascular Imaging and Vascular Medicine. He did his General Medical training in London and Oxford, including a 2-year General Medical rotation at St Thomas’ Hospital, working under Sir Professor Richard Thompson (ex-Physician to the Queen and ex-President of the Royal College of Physicians). He then embarked on a career in Cardiology, completing his General Cardiology training in Birmingham, Oxford and Wales. He subspecialized in coronary intervention, which included a 2.5 year interventional fellowship at the Cardiovascular Research Foundation, New York, and the New York University Medical Centre, New York, USA. His specialist interests include complex coronary intervention, and the management of acute and stable coronary artery disease. He is one of the highest volume coronary intervention operators in the UK. He is currently the lead for the acute chest pain and PCI services at the Manchester Heart Centre.
Dr El-Omar has published widely in clinical and basic science research and has authored >75 peer-reviewed manuscripts, many in high-impact factor journals. Dr. Aziz completed his pediatric cardiology fellowship at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia in 2010 and continued his training there in pediatric electrophysiology. She was a twice recipient of the Joseph Lindsay Teaching Award at Georgetown University/MedStar Washington Hospital Center and a twice recipient of the Joel Rosenthal Teaching Award at Baylor Scott & White, The Heart Hospital.
Dr. Wang is a fellow of the ASE and ACC, and she served as an ASE perioperative executive council member.
